Company History

Adams & Son Trucking, Inc. was established in 1987 by Robert and Donald Adams, but the roots of the company extend back to the early 1960's. Robert Adams started the business in 1962 with one water truck and expanded the business throughout the 1960s and 19702 with additional water trucks and oil field rig up trucks. In 1982, Don joined his father in the business and the business continued to expand, primarily for the oil industry. In 1987, the company incorporated and continued in the business of rig moving and water hauling.

Then in 1989 Bob and Don determined that it would be in the best interests of the company to diversify its operations in order to reduce its dependence on the oil and gas industry, which is cyclical in nature and often unpredictable. After considering a number of options they decided to purchase two tractors and flatbed trailers, with Don dispatching them. Later that year the company hired an additional dispatcher and purchased two more tractors and began to utilize lease operators to expand the fleet. In 1991 another dispatcher was hired and the flatbed division grew to approximately 25 units operating in 40 states.

Bob Adams retired in 1993 and Don became President of the company and continued the expansion of the flatbed division by purchasing Tezak Transportation in 1994. This company had a large customer base in Colorado, which complimented Adams & Son very well since a significant portion of the interstate freight the company handled was delivered to the Denver area.

Our company specializes in just-in-time delivery service and has satellite communications and real-time GPS systems installed in both company-owned and leased equipment, which allows us to be in constant contact with our drivers. In addition, we are currently using the ISO 9002 Quality Control system to provide assurance to both our shipping and warehouse customers that our service will adhere to the highest of standards.

Today the company operates approximately 70 flatbeds and has 30 dry van trailers. Our home office is still located in Sidney, Nebraska; we also operate a terminal in Denver, Colorado.

We have an affiliated company, Adams & Son Transportation Services, which is a brokerage operation offering nationwide transportation services. This allows us to handle large jobs with multiple loads and coverage of all traffic lanes within the U.S. and Canada.

Another affiliated company, Sidney Warehousing, L.L.C., owns and operates 900,000 square feet of warehouse space, along with 240 acres of outside storage, part of which is concrete. Each structure has two rows of heavy timber support columns with sixty foot spans under a continuous beam truss system with sixteen foot high rafters. The structures are built over concrete floors. We have immediate access to both Burlington Northern and Union Pacific rail lines, and we have our own switch engines and scale house. In addition, the warehouses are located within 5 miles of Interstate 80, and are less than 100 miles from Interstate 25 and Interstate 76.
